Raven Guard kit!

The rumors about the new Raven Guard box are true. In the next weeks there will be an official announcement for standalone Raven Guard box set. Maybe tied versus Tau, like the Dark Vengeance box, maybe both. Here are some pics:

Well, ForgeWorld models are still cooler but it is good to see that the official Games Workshop takes account its original chapters.

Update for my homebrew armies. Polean System.

Here is a huge update for my 40K plans. I have made a homebrew system, from where my armies will be. Basically is a dual planet system. The one is named "Polean System" and the second one "Terminus System". Both are located in the Vulpecula constellation. In the 40K universe this is located to the Segmentum Ultima, after the Halo Stars. Today I will say the history of the Polean System.

The location of the two systems is in the red quadrangle.

The first system, is the Polean System. It consists of a large planet and its moon. Both are Death Worlds and have been colonized at the end of the Age of Technology. The moon (Polean Secundus) is a desert death world, whereas the main planet (Polean Prime) is a mixed death world, containing jungles, mountains and seas, all with very hostile fauna and flora. This is the place where the Polean reigment of the Imperial Guard. Both planets were colonized with a somewhat haphazard way. The colonisation ships crashed at the end of the Age of Technology, and critical systems failed as fights between the humans and the machines inside them broke out. The main force fell on the Polean Prime and the other ships on the Polean Secundus. Some small ships remained intact and stayed in orbit.

In Polean Prime there was an island, where the largest of the ships crashed, there was a huge explosion, obliterating everything there. Today there is the citadel of the planet and the place of goverment of the whole system. It is the only safe place in the Polean Prime but the place is not enough to become a hive city. The goverment, govermental buildings and the space elevator at the center are the main features that the island has. The rest of the planet is covered in dense jungle, at its end there are extensive Tundra regions and high mountain regions. The rest of the planet is covered in water, with many small islands around. Although the life on the islands is somewhat safe, the waters are full of dangerous fauna and flora and there are regular storms across the island regions. Huge ships roam the seas, where they are floating factories for processing the huge creatures that the fishermen of the islands capture. The people of the seas will be based on the Maori people and will have extensive tattoos in their faces and arms.

The moon, Polean Secundus, is a vast desert world. The people there have to fight huge insects and dangerous flying predators. The vast shallow oceans are extremely salty and they have no life. The moon mostly produces mushrooms and Mukaali meat, the latter millenia the use of Grox for meat has reduced the Mukaali meat production. The only drawback of these Grox is that they are almost blind, because of their staying in the cave systems where the people live, and they tend to be more aggressive than normal (they cannot see, especially in far distances) and every now and then they tend to do extensive damage to the undergfound settlements. There are also feral Grox on the planet, these are not blind and have scales and nostrils with filters

to better survive the desert storms. These, along with the Grox from the Polean Prime are used as cavalry for the Polean army.

As almost every Grox has adapated to the relative climate it was introduced, they have been specialized breeds and the Poleans use them as specialized cavalry. There are also feral Grox all around the place who tend to be more agressive than their herded counterparts. It is from these Grox that Poleans take their cavalry, each Polean has to tame one to become a full adult, as their final trial. The Jungle Grox has adaptive camouflage (like a chameleon) and hard scales, not as hard as the Desert Grox though. The Snow Grox is covered in heavy fur and is almost invisible to infrared radiation. Also it can fall in hybernation, the Poleans use the extract of these glands to their medicine.

Polean Prime and moon (Secundus)

The other main elements of the Polean System is the Velchanos Forge World, large gas giants and huge asteroid belts. Velchanos Forge Wolrd was colonized much later from the main planets and it produces many specialiazed variants of the Imperial tech. The huge amounts of materials from the asteroids and the gas giants are also extracted to other worlds of the Imperium. The Forge World and the mining colonies were created from the surviving ships of the remaining colonizers.

A very distinct feature of the Polean people is their tolerance of abhumans and psykers, As the system is located near an active pulsar, many mutations have been documented. Squats, Ogryns, Ratlings, Pelagers (Polean Prime seas), Víkangrs (very hairy men and with a huge posture, almost as a Space Marine, in Polean Prime ice deserts and mountains) and Nightsiders (space stations and especially to the asteroid belt at the far edge of the system). The psykers were the only way of communication in the first colonization years, as most-if not all-the communication equipment was destroyed in the crashes. This made them favorable among the population, not only on the surface of the planet, but also for interplanetary connection.

In Polean Prime there is an alien civilization and they have a love-hate relationship with the human population. They are in a primitive state and have shamanic beliefs, they are fiersome fighters and very good hunters. These will be based in one of my favorite creatures, the Predator. They are degraded in hunter gatherer people and living in threehouses, although the huge stone city remains in the jungle will be of their ancestors.

When the Imperium found again the system, the Poleans accepted them with great happiness and expected them for more than 10 millenia. As the system is very stable in faith and production, and its very large distance from major Imperial routes, the Administratum has left the system with a relaxed independence. They fought along the loyalist forces during the Horus Heresy and they believe that the Emperor is a paternal figure and their light, which somewhat is true as without the Astronimican light they will be cut off for once more from both Terra and the human species.

Another variant of the Polean System, wheeled Taurox truck

In the early centuries of the 38th millenium the Polean System saw an attack wave of an unkown xenos species. Near the system, on their long pilgrimage, there was a Space Marine force. They helped the Poleans to eradicate the xenos and then they stayed there as their watchers. They found many things in common with their normal human counterparts. The xenos species was not recorded again, until 741.M41, as the Tyranid species. Some Tyranids survived in the Polean system and have been in a feral state ever since the 38th millenia.

The battle doctrine of the Poleans is guerilla warfare with hit and run tactics. They are experts in almost every terrain, thanks to their multiple biomes. They prefer long range recons with their Valkyries and drops behind enemy lines, where in the front line the cavalry (Grox roughriders) makes diversion. For heavy support they use Basilisk artillery. They do not use many tanks, as the lack of many open spaces in the system makes them an easy target, but they use Hellhounds, Infernus tanks, customized Hades Breaching Drills with flamers, and tank killer tanks, albeit with limited use. They have some specialized variants of the Imperial Guard equipment, like the bullpup silenced lasguns, hellguns, hotshot lasgun snipers, some shotgun variants and the use of a compact las-smg. Some of their Valkyries are a different pattern with larger engines but they mostly perform the same as the standard variant. One of their most valuable machines is the Sentinel Walker and has multiple variations thourought the system, along with a very specialized (non combat) variant with hands that is used as a lifter and heavy exosuit in the asteroid mines. They can use grav-chutes, a thing learned from the high cliffs that are present thourought the Polean system and they favour explosives and demo charges. Sometimes they use specialized explosive or flamer shells in their shotguns or their grenade launchers.

The Space Marine force that helped the Poleans was the Equitus Austis Chapter, my homebrewn Space Marine Chapter. Their history will be told another time.

Any comment and critisism to my story so far is welcomed.

The Siege of Bruj‏

Guest Article by Adam, AKA TheAmbit (theambit.blogspot.com)
Now that I'm finished, I really wanted to share this with the community.

The story details the outcome of a narrative campaign between the Raven Guard and my creation, the Emerald Fists.  The details and events portrayed are inspired by actual in-game events as each mission evolved based on the results of the previous (some artistic license was of course taken).  The heroes and events are all original and in many cases the result of dice rolls.

This took about 3 years of procrastinating to complete and I had to learn how to use adobe inDesign and a bit of photoshop.  I had this printed off and bound for my coffee table too!

"Acting on intel from the Segmentum's Inquisition, the Raven Guard 3rd company deploys a scouting party to the system of Bruj to investigate reports of a once loyal chapter, the Emerald Fists, having captured the system and enslaved the populace to their own end.  What they find there spits on the friendship the 3rd Captain once thought he held with the Fists and puts both chapters into battlefield roles they were not designed for."

The story details the outcome of a narrative campaign loosely based on the Badab War Campaign between the Raven Guard and my creation, the Emerald Fists.  The details and events portrayed are inspired by actual in-game events as each mission evolved based on the results of the previous (some artistic license was of course taken).  The heroes and events are all original and in many cases the result of dice rolls.

Now that it's finished (it took me 3 years!) I've had it printed to a hardbound book by Blurb and it has a new home on my coffee table.  Here's a few photos of the cover and some pages.  Adobe inDesign was used to make the layouts and Photoshop was used for the image effects (I had to watch a lot of youtube videos to learn some tricks).  I went with a sepia for the majority of the page layouts so as to not distract from the text.  Little scrolls are present throughout the book with biographies of each of the major players.

It's really a culmination of the hobby for me and allowed me to combine some story writing with gaming, painting and hanging out with the people involved.  Definitely need to thank my buddy Dayne for his contributions as well.

Late July briefing.

I have not stopped the research for my Space Marine army, but it is summer after all and working in an archaelogical site does not leave me lots of time. Some days are even difficult to work on paper, let alone working putty. Anyway, I still work on my Space Marines, doing some custom work (a lot of custom work!) and started working on a Greek Commander in 54mm from Romeo Models.

Space Marine 40K army building

After a long time of absense from 40K playing I am back. After a Tau army (the old days), I now want to field a Space Marine army. I started to build a Grey Knights army but then I followed the dark path of custom Chapter. So far I read the fluff and trying to finalize my army's color scheme. I have already built a basic backstory and I am working in a custom codex. It is a difficult process, especially if I want to make the codex balanced. If I wanted an OP army I would have stayed with the Grey Knights, haha.

So here is my backstory so far.

"When the Titan moon was in the Warp and the first full Grey Knights were off the last stages of training, their Monastery received a help signal from a convoy of Astartes ships that have fallen to a Warp storm chasing some Traitors. Since the convoy was with several Legions the GK council decided to send a very small team with the new GK to also test their potential and save the gene-seeds of the Astartes from possible annihilation and corruption from the Traitor Legions. The corvette found the convoy and organized them to return to the monastery but a sudden Warp storm wave made things worse and made them lose their way. In the following millenia the convoy drifted in the Warp trying to find an exit. In the way the GK guided the Legions and purged Traitors and heretics found in various places and planets there. They also encoutered Loyalist forces lost in the Warp and found that they were not tainted yet. The new team had to adapt to the new situations with the Warp environment, limited supplies and loss of battle brothers and crew. The GKs died in the battles and the original Legions were almost decimated. However the guidance and legacy of the GKs remained and new neophytes trained. Finally, after a very long road, only one Battle Barge remained, with salvaged parts from all the other ships and parts from some Space Hulks and tech found in lost Forge Worlds. The saved Mechanicus played a vital role in saving the crumbling ship.

The Battle Barge and the remaining force within exited the Warp in the Purge of Jollana (913.M41) when the attack of Ahriman loosend the barrier between the dimensions. They responded ASAP to the
battle of the planet and fought a furious battle in the Library, yet not in a vital place as the GK were.
After the battle they reunited with the Imperium forces. The Inquisition was suspicious at first, but
after a long process it found that the team was pure. The force could not become GKs, so the Inquisition and GKs given them the privilege to go to other Chapters or found a new one. Most of them chose to make a new Chapter with the name "XXXXX" (working on this), to honor their first Chapter Master. His story goes that while they fought a huge battle in a Hell-Forge World, he was lost to a cavern and was saved by dragging himself from a fox´s tail (minor feral daemon). The liquid bronze of the soil stained his armor. After his emergence from the cavern he managed to find his battle brothers and succeeded to organize a defence and they were saved. After this battle all the battle brothers have painted their armor Bronze-Brass color. The remaining Legion SMs went back to their homeworlds, yet still remained in contact with the new Chapter. Also the new Chapter, in order to honour them, organized regular visits to the monasteries and planets of these Legions-Chapters.

The saved armors of the lost GKs and SMs, along with the untainted gene-seeds, were given back to their corresponding Chapters and the "XXXX" started a path to the far fringes of the galaxy to bring the light of the Emperor. They passed the Ghoul Stars and finally they settled their homeworld in the Eastern Fringe (Scutum–Centaurus Arm, Vulpecula constellation). There they found a ringworld (Hey, the 40K has a Dyson Sphere, so I am not outside the fluff here ) inhabited by humans and helped them eradicate the emerging Necrons from the world. The ringworld is older than the Necrons and the Old Ones and the War in Heaven. The Chapter stayed there, as the mechanicus wanted to find the archaeotech the ringworld had. The armor will be a mix of Greek Hoplite and Monks with other bits. The Knighthood of the ringworld will be not based to the wester type of arthurian style but to the japanese kanto style. The Chapter will accept the new ways, a mindset that they keep from their Warp crusade (check their battle cry below), yet they will still remain faithfull to their Father and Emperor.

So far I am at this point. I want to make the Chapter a mix of GKs, Exorcists and Blood Ravens-
Thousand Sons, as they want to be as pure as possible from the Warp and that they consider knowledge a high standard. I am also thinking of using a modified GKs codex as a force construction but I don't know if this is possible by GW rules. I want to battle a close combat army with heavy support at the very back. (A remaining from my Tau days? Possibly)

Battle cries:
"Improvise, Adapt, Overcome"
"Vir sapiens et fortis est et vir doctus robustus et validus"

Gene seed: unknown, possibly Dark Angels
Primarch: unknown
Loyalty: loyal
Colors: Bronze-Brass armor with black runic details and Red-Purple or dark blue tunics

Founding: 2nd or 26th, unknown because of

Warp

I started building the army for Blood Ravens so I used the basic Codex Astartes to form a basic structure"

The army will have features of hoplite armor, as the helmets and chest plates, along with other parts of their gear. Also some minor details from japanese warriors, especially the overlapping design of the armor plates. Something which was also prominent in many armies of the ancient western world. Most of the nomenclature will be Latin to be close to Imperial High Gothic.

Basic Tactical Marine

Some WIP names for the chapter:
Equites Austi
Equites Volpii

WIP names of the ringworld:
Corona Exitus
Corona Terminus
Orbis Exitus

Custom Bulpup Bolter, some working names: Groza Pattern, Oberndorf Pattern, Schwarzwald Pattern (Have made a model and trying to make some casts)

A WIP chapter badge.

I want to make part of the army to be a Penance Squad. Rules could be like the Sisters Repentia rules? They will be Battle Brothers that with some way have ashamed the chapter or themselves to the eyes of the Emperor. Maybe sole survivors from their team or failed to save a world or something else. Will wear monk robes and only their chest plates, along with the power melee weapons and shields· they will carry the rest of their armor strapped to their backs, like in the Mission movie (1986) with Robert De Niro.

Because so far I have a small fluff knowledge, I would like any input. Thanks in advance!
